When you need a little color for a celebration or occasion, a quick bracelet will do the
trick. You can create bracelets for yourself or your whole group in a matter of min
utes by recycling colored plastic bags. It's a green way to
get into the spirit of things.
Things you will need :
- Up to 3 colors of shopping bags that correspond with your team colors
- Scissors
Once you gathered this all start with your work.
Lay your plastic bags flat. Cut across the bottom of the bag to remove the bottom seam.
Cut 1" thick strips across the width of the bag, as shown. You will need three strips of plastic for each bracelet. Here, we used red from one side of a Target bag, a strip of white from the back of the same bag, and a strip of
blue from another bag.
Once you have your three strips, it’s the time to braid them
Knot and Braid the Strips
Braid the strips until your bracelet is long enough to go around your wrist with 1" to spare for tying the ends together. If you are making a batch of bracelets for a group, 8-9" is a good length for most wrists.
Once you've got a braided length, now we can finsh up.
Tie and Trim the Edges
Tie the ends of your bracelet together, then trim off the extra plastic.
At this point, you can add charms to your bracelet, or get to work on using the rest of your plastic bags to create free bracelets for your friends that will match your own. Let them know how you made them...this project is a great way to add color while recycle plastic bags.
